KAM MAN MARKETPLACE - QUINCY MA.

So this weekend I was to visit this Asian supermarket that I have been wanting to see for some time.  The reason why is because being on Weight Watchers there is alot of healthy choices that you can probably find here than a regular supermarket so we went to the Kam Man Marketplace.

This place doesn't look very big from the outside but man it is HUGE on the inside!  We walked in and I was just so overwhelmed by all the different varieties of herbal supplements, teas, vegetables, and alot of things I have never seen or heard of before.  It will be nice to know what all of this stuff does, how it tastes etc.  Now I do have my limits and believe it or not there are some things that I WILL NOT try like for instance:

Um...yeah I don't think so!

What kind of fungus is this?  Doesn't look like mushrooms to me!

Didn't know you could eat this.

Now I didn't take these pictures....but this stuff was there!  And so much more!  We didn't have alot of time to look at everything in this store but if you are looking for something out of the ordinary you will definitely find it here!  You can also buy some authentic Asian wear, knick knacks, tea sets and such.  I really do want to go back when I have more time to really look through this store and find some neat stuff.  I'm planning on learning to make miso soup and this will definitely be the place to get all of the ingredients.

There was another item of tea that we saw that made us giggle and yes it was a little childish but it was a product from this company

Hee hee hee...you can use your imagination.  I know mind in the gutter.

Well until next time....

PEDIGREE DOG FOOD VS. WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW

Okay...so this is going to be a serious and long blog for a minute.  I don't know how many of you watch the annual Westminster Dog Show but I know I do tend to watch it not every year but every so often.  To watch all of these beautiful cream of the crop dogs strut their stuff and I always wish my dog was so well behaved like them.  Granted Zoey is not a pure bred but even if she was she would probably go take off running through the arena and just embarrass me for sure.  No matter how much training she would have, she does whatever she wants to do.

So let me get back to the reason of this blog.  My co-worker brought this fact to my attention that for many years (at least 20 to be exact), Pedigree has been a sponsor for this dog show.  And every year they air their adoption drive commercials during this event take a look at the one from last year below:

The Westminster Dog Show decided it would be a good idea to drop Pedigree as one of their sponsors because the commercial is too sad depicting stray and abandoned dogs and the kennel club shared a different vision.  A different vision???  Is this because most of these abandoned stray dogs are mutts, mixed-breeds and not pure bred and would never be able to be a part of the dog show ever!  Sad right????  But yes....this is reality people!  Now there is nothing wrong with people who raise pure bred dogs and there is nothing wrong with this annual dog show.  But what are they trying to say?  BUY a pure bred dog that can be a minimum of $2,000.00 from a really good breeder but NOT adopt an animal who just has been abandoned or abused by irresponsible owners (not all cases) and put out on the street.  This really doesn't make any sense to me.

Out of my last three dogs two of them were adopted and saved from an animal shelter and two of them were pure bred.  So you can find pure bred dogs in an animal shelter, they may not have their papers but they are still pure bred.  First we have Sandy who was a pure bred Pomeranian and such a beautiful dog (wish I had a picture to post) but very aggressive.  Why?  Because he was constantly abused in the home he was in, but my family took him in and he was the best family dog...granted we had to secure him when people came over but the first year of his life was constantly being beaten and we were the first family to show him some love and continued to love him even with his flaws.  Unfortunately Sandy was hit by a car in 1995 and passed away, this was just 6 months after my father passed away and we think Sandy was searching for my dad...they were partners in crime.  And boy do I miss them both.

Then we have Muffin, my precious little girl

(She was 16 years old in this picture)

Muffin was a pure bred American Eskimo, another sad story she was constantly beaten by a male that lived in the household on a daily basis for the first 6 months of her life.  The first six months of the life of a dog are the most precious.  So I brought home a dog who was very attached to me and very over protective of me.  Also she did not like any men in the beginning, but with love and care she learned to tolerate a few of them when I taught her that not everyone is bad and out to hurt her.  I was able to have 15 1/2 beautiful years with my beautiful "pookie bear" but had to let her go on November 27th, 2010 she was just too old and wasn't eating or drinking.  It was hard...but the last 3 months of her life she perked up a little bit when  her little sister came into her life.

Checking out her new little sister Aug. 2010

These sisters loved each other

Granted as siblings they didn't get along all the time but Muffin perked up when I brought Zoey into the home.

Now we come to Zoey...granted Zoey didn't have to endure any of her life in a shelter but if I didn't decide to bring her into my home she probably would have gone to a shelter.  Zoey is a mixed breed she is a Chi-Apso! (1/2 Chihuahua 1/2 Lhasa apso)  So Zoey is fortunate that she came from a loving home to a loving home.  And she is pretty spoiled

This is the day I brought her home...how can you not love this face????

Yes...she is spoiled and a diva but how can you not love this face????

This is Zoey now...still adorable...again how can you not love this face????

So in ending this blog my point is sure the Westminster Dog Show does have the right to their own opinion...but SHAME ON THEM!!!  Does that give them the right to HIDE alternatives for people who cannot afford a pure bred dog and to save the lives of dogs (and cats, let's not forget about cats too) in shelters?  Granted...I don't feed Zoey Pedigree dog food, but I applaud them for getting the word out there to ADOPT, ADOPT, ADOPT with their annual Adoption Drive every year.  And another thing, they have been doing this for several years and now this year the Dog Show decides they don't have the same vision? Why because mixed breeds are of a lesser class to them?

Be aware people, pure bred dogs are great and can be loving dogs...but please adopt first when you can...there are millions of animals in shelters that are great loving dogs, and alot of shelters only deal with pure bred dogs as well if you really are set on having a pure bred dog.  If I didn't adopt...I wouldn't have been able to share my life with the three most awesome dogs of my life!!!!  I know this is kind of long...but I just had to get this off of my chest.

Also...SPAY or NEUTER your animals if you can't handle the responsibility so we can keep the population of unwanted animals off the streets and out of the shelters!

Well until next time....

I DO BELIEVE THERE IS A SPY WALKING AMONGST US

So today I was upgrading my cable box and the cable guy informs me that because the signal weak it can support my current box but not the new one. So then he asks me who wired the house the way it is in the first place. Of course I tell him that's how it was when I moved here and told him the story of the fiasco when I first moved in here and how the company said they would come out and change the cables because off the way it was draped in front of the house and laying in the gutter

So he asks me how does your landlord feel about me drilling more holes? I told him I don't know but we can call him.  He then tells me to forget it and if the landlord complains tell him that the cable company  had to do it so the wiring could be correct.  So I say okay.

Why is it I sit here and I start to hear voices outside and who is the cable guy talking to? My landlord who then comes in the house to find out what he is doing. At first I didn't think anything of it but then thought all the other days I took off the landlord has NEVER been by my house.  Which leads me to believe that one of those women who live on the second floor of the house in front of mine were looking out the window wondering what the cable guy was doing around the house and called the landlord. His office is close about 10 minutes away and could get here fairly quickly.

Call me a skeptic or call this incident a coincidence but I do believe they called him to come out here. But I do believe there is a spy in the midst and I do not like it not one bit. What are they going to watch my every move?  They better not.

Well until next time....

CONTACT SUNGLASSES - RANDOM THOUGHT

So as I'm sitting here waiting for my bus I'm thinking wish had sunglasses.  Then a thought popped into my head when Brian asked a pretty good question the other day. "Do they make contacts that block the sun?" I answered no but then told him that was a pretty good idea!

So they need to make these things and call them "Suntacts"!  Brian comes up with the best ideas sometimes.

**UPDATE**

Apparently this is already done!  The website is www.sport-tint.com and who would have known?  Oh well keep coming up with those ideas Brian!

Well until next time....

VALENTINE'S DAY...TOO OVER RATED I SAY

So it's coming to that time of the year again....some people love it and some people hate it.  Now I'm not saying that I hate it and I'm not saying that I love it either...it's really just another day.  According to Wikipedia this is what it says about it:

Saint Valentine's Day, commonly shortened to Valentine's Day,[1][2][3] is a holiday observed on February 14 honoring one or more early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").[1][3] The day first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. It was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD, and was later deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI.
Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.[4]

My question is....why is this one day chosen to show your love and affection for your loved ones?  Shouldn't we be doing that every day?  Why does what someone does this ONE day out of the year make you feel special?  How do people make you feel throughout the whole year?  We are so trapped into this holiday sometimes thinking oh I have to have a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife or partner to celebrate this holiday.  Why?  Because everybody makes you feel like you need to have a significant other for this holiday.  Why can't it be like it used to be when we were kids in school?  Yeah sure there were some of us that didn't want to get a card from someone that we didn't like but you pretty much did the same thing for everyone so no one was left out.  It's amazing how things change when we grow up and our thinking changes.  We feel that we must be with someone to feel like we belong or are doing what every body else is doing.

So the whole point of this entry is....RELAX people.  If you are single, don't hate every couple out there if they are doing lovey dovey things and you are feeling left out.  Do something for yourself, don't you deserve something special if you think so get it.  Don't sit around thinking that you aren't special just because you feel you don't have anyone to spend this OVER RATED holiday with.  And if you are part of a couple, don't feel you have to do something extra special this day, you should make your significant other feel special EVERY DAY.  And show them that you care about them on a daily basis.  This is just another tactic for us to spend too much money for someone that we feel we need to make feel special on this one day and you know what we all fall for it...even me!

Well until next time....

ATM ETIQUITTE....PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO LEARN THIS!

So let me tell you about this crazy lady who was on the phone the whole time after she cut in front of me at the ATM yesterday.  First I was looking in my bag for my wallet and I was less than a foot away from the ATM...so instead of asking me if I was going to use it, this woman (who was on her cell phone) just started using it, so when I found my wallet and turned around to use it she was already using it.  The whole time she was on her phone talking obviously not paying attention to what she was doing. Because after her transaction, instead of finishing it she just left the ATM. And had I been a criminal, I had access to her bank account and could have taken money out of her account because the ATM was asking her if she wanted another transaction.  Obviously I'm not a criminal and I alerted her right away and she huffed at me (because I called her ma'am) and I told her she wasn't finished with her transaction.  At that point she went back to the ATM, finished her transaction and forced a thank you to me.

I just had to shake my head at that...so for those of you who are like this woman....read simple instructions below that are probably available on your banks website:

Using an ATM

  • Be especially cautious when strangers offer to help you at an ATM, even if your card is stuck or you are experiencing difficulty with the transaction. (She wasn't cautious when I did help her)

  • You should not allow anyone to distract you while you are at the ATM.
  • Check that other individuals in the queue keep an acceptable distance from you. Be on the look-out for individuals who might be watching you enter your PIN. (If she didn't cut me off....I could have seen what her pin was if I wasn't in my bag.  But then again I wouldn't have stood that close to her)

  • Stand close to the ATM and shield the keypad with your hand when keying in your PIN
(you may wish to use the knuckle of your middle finger to key in the PIN).

  • Follow the instructions on the display screen, e.g. do not key in your PIN until the ATM requests you to do so.

  • If you feel the ATM is not working normally, press the Cancel key and withdraw your card and then proceed to another ATM.
  • Never force your card into the card slot.

  • Keep your printed transaction record so that you can compare your ATM receipts to your monthly statement. (And finish your transaction so ALL of your banking information is available for the next person in line)

  • If your card gets jammed, retained or lost, or if you are interfered with at an ATM, report this immediately to the bank and/or police using the help line provided or nearest phone.

  • Do not be in a hurry during the transaction, and carefully secure your card & cash in your wallet, handbag or pocket before leaving the ATM. (Oh and get off your STUPID cell phone...your call can wait just a minute)
This woman is an accident waiting to happen...oh wait it wouldn't be an accident because her careless attitude is making her a moving target.  I wish this lady luck and I hope her identity never gets stolen if it hasn't been already.

Well until next time....
